Joining the Library

To make use of our services and facilities, you’ll need to become a library member. You can do this by completing the form below, and you’ll be sent your library card in the post.

If you’d like a tour of the library or an explanation of our services, please ask, and we’ll be happy to provide one.

Who can join the library? (click to expand)

  • All staff employed by Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust
  • All staff employed by Shropshire Community Healthcare Trust
  • All staff employed by Shropshire County CCG
  • Students studying with or on clinical placement at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust or Shropshire Community Healthcare Trust
  • Volunteers at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust
  • General practice staff in Shropshire
  • Some other groups may be allowed to become members – please ask a member of library staff if you’re unsure

What if you are not eligible to join?

If you’re not eligible to join, you can still visit the library, and you can:

  • Consult the stock
  • Make photocopies (within copyright rules)
  • Study as space permits

You won’t be able to access any of our computers and you won’t be able to use the library when it is unstaffed.

Your information

We are committed to safeguarding your information. The information you provide will be used to administer your library account on the Shropshire Health Libraries management system and if requested, to administer an account on the NHS OpenAthens or KnowledgeShare systems. Your information will be shared with the organisations that supply and manage our library systems, and we may share your information with another library service if you move organisation.

We may contact you from time to time about changes to our services or resources.

If you have unreturned items we may share information with, or request information from, your employer or university to help us get in touch with you.

Accessing your personal information

Please ask us if you would like to see the information we hold about you. We may ask for some requests in writing.

Deleting your personal information

We will delete the information we hold about you after a maximum 5-year period of inactivity (in case you return to use NHS library and knowledge services again within this time).
