We don’t have a library app, but our website is responsively designed to work on all devices. However, some of our resources do have apps available, and you can find these and more on our Healthcare Apps page.

Both libraries offer a comb-binding service, with a 24 hour turnaround time. Cost is £2.50 for up to 70 pages, or £3.50 for over 70 pages. We can also sell you just the combs and covers if you prefer to do the binding yourself on our machine.
BMJ Case Reports
BMJ Case Reports is a searchable database of case reports, accessible to SaTH staff. SaTH staff can also submit their own case reports and our fellowship number 915046 if you wish to do this.

If you need a book that is held in Shropshire Health Libraries, whether it is on loan, at another site, or you simply want it put to one side for collection, you can reserve it through the catalogue using your library barcode number.
Books on Prescription
We have many of the titles from the Books on Prescription scheme available in our Healthy Lives collections.
The Shropshire Health Libraries catalogue includes all the print books held in Shrewsbury and Telford, along with books held at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital’s Francis Costello Library. As well as searching for books, you can renew your loans and reserve books.
We have an ongoing chess game at Telford, as part of our Well-Being @ Work service.
Clinical Question Answering
You can request a quick turnaround search providing 3-5 key results to answer a specific clinical question.
Stressed? We have a range of colouring books for adults and colouring pencils that you can use in the libraries as part of our Well-Being @ Work service.
Both libraries have PCs available to use in the IT drop-in room, and at Shrewsbury there are additional PCs available throughout the Learning Centre. You can check availability of PCs at Shrewsbury.
Craft and Chat Group
There is a weekly Craft and Chat group at both hospitals, with meetings at PRH on Tuesdays at 5pm, and at RSH on Wednesdays at 5pm. Library staff and volunteers will be offering to help beginners with knitting, crochet, sewing and other crafty projects. This is part of our Well-Being @ Work service.
Critical appraisal support
We can provide training in the basic of critical appraisal techniques to groups, and we also provide some online training resources.
Dementia ‘Pictures to Share’
The ‘Pictures to Share’ series is a collection of picture books, with some accompanying text, for staff to use with people with dementia. Copies are on the shelves at WT 240 BAT.
Apps for mobile devices are also available.
We have over 20,000 titles available through the ProQuest Ebook Central service to eligible users with OpenAthens accounts. Books can be viewed online, or downloaded to mobile devices for up to 14 days at at time. Visit our guide to downloading e-books for more information.
Both libraries have separate collections of revision and exam preparation books for undergraduate medical students, and postgraduate medical courses (such as MRCP, MRCS, MRCPCH etc.).

Group study areas
We know that people need to work in groups sometime, so we have some areas set aside for group work and collaboration. In the IT drop-in room at Shrewsbury we have a collaboration table with a large monitor that groups can use to work on presentations together.
Health awareness event displays
At Shrewsbury we have regular displays to support national or local health awareness events. Let us know if your team would like to have a display in the library.
Healthy Lives Collections
Both libraries have Healthy Lives collections to support your own well-being and that of your family, including books on mindfulness, parenting, stress management, exercise and more.
We sell a range of hot drinks for £1 each during staffed opening hours. At Shrewsbury, we also sell flapjacks for £1 each on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support.

IT Training Rooms
Shrewsbury has two bookable IT Training Rooms available to book for £40 per day. An IT Training Room is also available in the Education Centre at Telford, and this can be booked through the IT department.
We have ongoing jigsaw puzzles in both libraries to help you de-stress, so feel free to pop in and do a bit of jigsaw. This is part of our Well-Being @ Work service.
Joining the library
You can register online, or pop into either of our libraries to register with us (please bring some ID with you that shows who you work for or are studying with). There is more information about who can join on the registration page.
Journal club support
Running a journal club, or thinking about starting one? We can help!
We have access to over 3,500 journal titles, though not all titles will have all issues available. To check whether the one you want is available, visit the ‘Journal’ tab on OmniSearch.
Shrewsbury also has a small range of nursing and midwifery journals in print.
We produce 45 different email alerts providing details of recent journal articles, books, e-books and official publications.
At Shrewsbury we have a laminator, and sell laminating pouches for 20p each. You can either do it yourself, or we’re happy to do the laminating for you.
Both libraries have laptops available for use within the libraries.
Both libraries have well-stocked collections of books to support leadership and management in designated Leadership Zones.
Lean Resource Boxes
We have a variety of Resource Boxes available to teams to borrow for 28 days at a time containing a range of books and other resources on specific topics, and one of these contains resources on lean to support the SaTH partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute.
We have collections of leisure reading books in both of our libraries, that include a range of novels, biographies and non-fiction titles. These are loaned for 28 days, and no fines are charged.
We accept donations of good quality books, so please feel free to pass on to us titles you’ve enjoyed and want to share with colleagues.
We can carry out searches on your behalf to identify journal articles, guidelines, systematic reviews and other material to help meet your requirements.
If your search is for coursework, we’ll ask you to do the search yourself but we are happy to offer training on how to search.
At Shrewsbury, we have lockers available for loan for 14 days at a time.

Within the Learning Centre at Shrewsbury are several bookable Seminar Rooms (LC1-4), managed by the Undergraduate Office.
Mood Boosting Books
We have a number of the Mood-Boosting Books selected by the Reading Agency as being uplifting titles, including novels, poetry and non-fiction. These are available as part of our Leisure Collections.
Nursing and Midwifery Revalidation Resource Boxes
We have a variety of Resource Boxes available to teams to borrow for 28 days at a time containing a range of books and other resources on specific topics, and one of these contains resources to support nursing and midwifery revalidation.

As well as the Resource Boxes, we also have revalidation forms available to take away, and can support you in a number of other ways such as our Knowledge Updates to keep up to date with new developments, training to help you find suitable journal articles to reflect on, and books on topics such as reflection, portfolio building, writing and lots more.
OmniSearch is our one-stop search facility for a range of library resources, including books, e-books, articles, evidence resources and journals.
OpenAthens is a password system for access to a range of information resources purchased nationally and locally. They are free of charge, and all NHS staff and students can have one.

Access 24 hours a day, seven days a week is available to eligible users on application.

We run a training programme of short 20 minute (with extra time for questions) lunchtime sessions to introduce you to a range of resources and web technologies.

We have reminiscence boxes available in both libraries to help support people with dementia. The boxes contain items to provoke memories and discussion, and have been developed in collaboration with the Dementia Lead Nurse. They can be borrowed by staff for use in wards and departments.
Renewing your books
You can renew your loans through the Shropshire Health Libraries catalogue – all you need to do this is your library barcode number. You can also renew your books by email or phone, on the self-service machine at Shrewsbury, or simply by visiting the library desk.
If no-one else has reserved the books, you can renew them as many times as required.
Returning your books
Books can be returned to whichever of our libraries is most convenient to you, or in the post. You can also return our books to the The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital’s Francis Costello Library.
Keele medical students based with us can return our books to the Keele Health Library, and can return Keele books at Shrewsbury.
If we’re closed (and you don’t have out of hours access) we have book return boxes outside the Learning Centre at Shrewsbury, and in the Nurses’ Common Room in the Education Centre at Telford.

Staff Engagement and Wellbeing Resource Boxes

At Shrewsbury, we have a range of stationery for sale including branded items from Staffordshire University. Most of these are on display in the cabinet in the entrance.
Training and assistance
We’re happy to provide training in information skills, and this can be at your workplace or in the libraries. We can also provide assistance over the phone or email if you are struggling to access information.

Vocational Qualification books
We already stock a number of books to support vocational qualification, including the Diploma in Health and Social Care, but if we don’t have what you need let us know and we’ll obtain copies for you.
Volunteers working with SaTH can register as library members, borrow books, and use the dedicated volunteer PCs.
At Shrewsbury we have a portable whiteboard you can use for revision or group work within the Learning Centre as well as wall-mounted whiteboard in other areas. If you’d prefer to use flipchart paper, let us know and we can supply this.
Both sites have access to free public WiFi (via ‘SaTH_Public_WiFi’). In addition, both sites have access to NHS WiFi for SaTH devices (these devices should automatically connect to the network).
Shrewsbury Health Library also has:
